Proverbs 20:28-30

²⁸Mercy and truth preserve the king; and he upholdeth his throne by mercy.

²⁹The glory of young men is their strength; and the beauty of old men is the grey head.

³⁰Wounding stripes purge away evil, and strokes [purge] the inner parts of the belly.

New International Version

²⁸Love and faithfulness keep a king safe;
through love^(A) his throne is made secure.^(B)

²⁹The glory of young men is their strength,
gray hair the splendor of the old.^(C)

³⁰Blows and wounds scrub^(D) away evil,
and beatings^(E) purge the inmost being.
