Proverbs 16:17-19

Good News Translation

¹⁷Those who are good travel a road that avoids evil; so watch where you are going—it may save your life.

¹⁸Pride leads to destruction, and arrogance to downfall.

¹⁹It is better to be humble and stay poor than to be one of the arrogant and get a share of their loot.

Proverbs 16:17-19

New International Version

¹⁷The highway of the upright avoids evil;
those who guard their ways preserve their lives.^(A)

¹⁸Pride^(B) goes before destruction,
a haughty spirit^(C) before a fall.^(D)

¹⁹Better to be lowly in spirit along with the oppressed
than to share plunder with the proud.
