⁴Some of those present were saying indignantly to one another, “Why this waste of perfume?

⁴And there were some that had indignation within themselves, and said, Why was this waste of the ointment made?

⁵It could have been sold for more than a year’s wages^[a] and the money given to the poor.” And they rebuked her harshly.

⁵For it might have been sold for more than three hundred pence, and have been given to the poor. And they murmured against her.

⁶¹Aware that his disciples were grumbling about this, Jesus said to them, “Does this offend you?^(A)

⁶¹When Jesus knew in himself that his disciples murmured at it, he said unto them, Doth this offend you?
