8 Do those things that will show that you have turned from your sins. 9 (A)And don't think you can escape punishment by saying that Abraham is your ancestor. I tell you that God can take these rocks and make descendants for Abraham! 10 (B)The ax is ready to cut down the trees at the roots; every tree that does not bear good fruit will be cut down and thrown in the fire.

8 Produce fruit in keeping with repentance.(A) 9 And do not think you can say to yourselves, ‘We have Abraham as our father.’(B) I tell you that out of these stones God can raise up children for Abraham. 10 The ax is already at the root of the trees, and every tree that does not produce good fruit will be cut down and thrown into the fire.(C)
