15 “So when you see standing in the holy place(A) ‘the abomination that causes desolation,’[a](B) spoken of through the prophet Daniel—let the reader understand— 16 then let those who are in Judea flee to the mountains. 17 Let no one on the housetop(C) go down to take anything out of the house. 18 Let no one in the field go back to get their cloak. 19 How dreadful it will be in those days for pregnant women and nursing mothers!(D) 20 Pray that your flight will not take place in winter or on the Sabbath. 21 For then there will be great distress, unequaled from the beginning of the world until now—and never to be equaled again.(E)

22 “If those days had not been cut short, no one would survive, but for the sake of the elect(F) those days will be shortened. 23 At that time if anyone says to you, ‘Look, here is the Messiah!’ or, ‘There he is!’ do not believe it.(G)

  1. Matthew 24:15 Daniel 9:27; 11:31; 12:11

The woman fled into the wilderness to a place prepared for her by God, where she might be taken care of for 1,260 days.(A)

Then war broke out in heaven. Michael(B) and his angels fought against the dragon,(C) and the dragon and his angels(D) fought back. But he was not strong enough, and they lost their place in heaven. The great dragon was hurled down—that ancient serpent(E) called the devil,(F) or Satan,(G) who leads the whole world astray.(H) He was hurled to the earth,(I) and his angels with him.

10 Then I heard a loud voice in heaven(J) say:

“Now have come the salvation(K) and the power
and the kingdom of our God,
and the authority of his Messiah.
For the accuser of our brothers and sisters,(L)
who accuses them before our God day and night,
    has been hurled down.
11 They triumphed over(M) him
by the blood of the Lamb(N)
and by the word of their testimony;(O)
they did not love their lives so much
    as to shrink from death.(P)
12 Therefore rejoice, you heavens(Q)
and you who dwell in them!
But woe(R) to the earth and the sea,(S)
because the devil has gone down to you!
He is filled with fury,
because he knows that his time is short.”

13 When the dragon(T) saw that he had been hurled to the earth, he pursued the woman who had given birth to the male child.(U) 14 The woman was given the two wings of a great eagle,(V) so that she might fly to the place prepared for her in the wilderness, where she would be taken care of for a time, times and half a time,(W) out of the serpent’s reach.
