33 They got up and returned at once to Jerusalem. There they found the Eleven and those with them, assembled together 34 and saying, “It is true! The Lord(A) has risen and has appeared to Simon.”(B) 35 Then the two told what had happened on the way, and how Jesus was recognized by them when he broke the bread.(C)

Jesus Appears to the Disciples

36 While they were still talking about this, Jesus himself stood among them and said to them, “Peace be with you.”(D)

37 They were startled and frightened, thinking they saw a ghost.(E) 38 He said to them, “Why are you troubled, and why do doubts rise in your minds? 39 Look at my hands and my feet. It is I myself! Touch me and see;(F) a ghost does not have flesh and bones, as you see I have.”

40 When he had said this, he showed them his hands and feet. 41 And while they still did not believe it because of joy and amazement, he asked them, “Do you have anything here to eat?”

33 And they rose up the same hour, and returned to Jerusalem, and found the eleven gathered together, and them that were with them,

34 Saying, The Lord is risen indeed, and hath appeared to Simon.

35 And they told what things were done in the way, and how he was known of them in breaking of bread.

36 And as they thus spake, Jesus himself stood in the midst of them, and saith unto them, Peace be unto you.

37 But they were terrified and affrighted, and supposed that they had seen a spirit.

38 And he said unto them, Why are ye troubled? and why do thoughts arise in your hearts?

39 Behold my hands and my feet, that it is I myself: handle me, and see; for a spirit hath not flesh and bones, as ye see me have.

40 And when he had thus spoken, he shewed them his hands and his feet.

41 And while they yet believed not for joy, and wondered, he said unto them, Have ye here any meat?

33 So they rose up that very hour and returned to Jerusalem, and found the eleven and those who were with them gathered together, 34 saying, “The Lord is risen indeed, and (A)has appeared to Simon!” 35 And they told about the things that had happened on the road, and how He was [a]known to them in the breaking of bread.

36 (C)Now as they said these things, Jesus Himself stood in the midst of them, and said to them, “Peace to you.” 37 But they were terrified and frightened, and supposed they had seen (D)a spirit. 38 And He said to them, “Why are you troubled? 40 [b]When He had said this, He showed them His hands and His feet. 41 But while they still did not believe (G)for joy, and marveled, He said to them, (H)“Have you any food here?”

until the day he was taken up to heaven,(A) after giving instructions(B) through the Holy Spirit to the apostles(C) he had chosen.(D) After his suffering, he presented himself to them and gave many convincing proofs that he was alive. He appeared to them(E) over a period of forty days and spoke about the kingdom of God.(F) On one occasion, while he was eating with them, he gave them this command: “Do not leave Jerusalem, but wait(G) for the gift my Father promised, which you have heard me speak about.(H) For John baptized with[a] water,(I) but in a few days you will be baptized with[b] the Holy Spirit.”(J)

Then they gathered around him and asked him, “Lord, are you at this time going to restore(K) the kingdom to Israel?”

He said to them: “It is not for you to know the times or dates the Father has set by his own authority.(L) But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you;(M) and you will be my witnesses(N) in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria,(O) and to the ends of the earth.”(P)

After he said this, he was taken up(Q) before their very eyes, and a cloud hid him from their sight.

Until the day in which he was taken up, after that he through the Holy Ghost had given commandments unto the apostles whom he had chosen:

To whom also he shewed himself alive after his passion by many infallible proofs, being seen of them forty days, and speaking of the things pertaining to the kingdom of God:

And, being assembled together with them, commanded them that they should not depart from Jerusalem, but wait for the promise of the Father, which, saith he, ye have heard of me.

For John truly baptized with water; but ye shall be baptized with the Holy Ghost not many days hence.

When they therefore were come together, they asked of him, saying, Lord, wilt thou at this time restore again the kingdom to Israel?

And he said unto them, It is not for you to know the times or the seasons, which the Father hath put in his own power.

But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.

And when he had spoken these things, while they beheld, he was taken up; and a cloud received him out of their sight.

The Holy Spirit Promised

(D)And being assembled together with them, He commanded them not to depart from Jerusalem, but to wait for the Promise of the Father, “which,” He said, “you have (E)heard from Me; (F)for John truly baptized with water, (G)but you shall be baptized with the Holy Spirit not many days from now.” Therefore, when they had come together, they asked Him, saying, “Lord, will You at this time restore the kingdom to Israel?” And He said to them, (H)“It is not for you to (I)know times or seasons which the Father has put in His own authority.
