When someone dies, don't visit the family or show any sorrow. I will no longer love or bless or have any pity on the people of Judah. Rich and poor alike will die and be left unburied. No one will mourn and show their sorrow by cutting themselves or shaving their heads.[a] No one will bring food and wine to help comfort those who are mourning the death of their father or mother.

For this is what the Lord says: “Do not enter a house where there is a funeral meal; do not go to mourn or show sympathy, because I have withdrawn my blessing, my love and my pity(A) from this people,” declares the Lord. “Both high and low will die in this land.(B) They will not be buried or mourned,(C) and no one will cut(D) themselves or shave(E) their head for the dead. No one will offer food(F) to comfort those who mourn(G) for the dead—not even for a father or a mother—nor will anyone give them a drink to console(H) them.
