These serve as a copy and shadow(A) of the heavenly things, as Moses was warned when he was about to complete the tabernacle. For God said, Be careful that you make everything according to the pattern that was shown to you on the mountain.(B)[a] But Jesus has now obtained a superior ministry, and to that degree He is the mediator(C) of a better covenant,(D) which has been legally enacted on better promises.(E)

A Superior Covenant

For if that first covenant had been faultless, there would have been no occasion for a second one.

They serve at a sanctuary that is a copy(A) and shadow(B) of what is in heaven. This is why Moses was warned(C) when he was about to build the tabernacle: “See to it that you make everything according to the pattern shown you on the mountain.”[a](D) But in fact the ministry Jesus has received is as superior to theirs as the covenant(E) of which he is mediator(F) is superior to the old one, since the new covenant is established on better promises.

For if there had been nothing wrong with that first covenant, no place would have been sought for another.(G)
