15 Make sure that no one misses out on God’s grace. Make sure that no root of bitterness grows up that might cause trouble and pollute many people. 16 Make sure that no one becomes sexually immoral or ungodly like Esau. He sold his inheritance as the oldest son for one meal. 17 You know that afterward, when he wanted to inherit the blessing, he was rejected because he couldn’t find a way to change his heart and life, though he looked for it with tears.

15 See to it that no one falls short of the grace of God(A) and that no bitter root(B) grows up to cause trouble and defile many. 16 See that no one is sexually immoral,(C) or is godless like Esau, who for a single meal sold his inheritance rights as the oldest son.(D) 17 Afterward, as you know, when he wanted to inherit this blessing, he was rejected. Even though he sought the blessing with tears,(E) he could not change what he had done.
