3 Go up to a land flowing with milk and honey; but I will not go up among you, lest I consume you in the way, for you are a stiff-necked people.”
4 When the people heard these evil tidings, they mourned; and no man put on his ornaments. 5 For the Lord had said to Moses, “Say to the people of Israel, ‘You are a stiff-necked people; if for a single moment I should go up among you, I would consume you. So now put off your ornaments from you, that I may know what to do with you.’”

3 Go up to the land flowing with milk and honey.(A) But I will not go with you, because you are a stiff-necked(B) people and I might destroy(C) you on the way.”
4 When the people heard these distressing words, they began to mourn(D) and no one put on any ornaments. 5 For the Lord had said to Moses, “Tell the Israelites, ‘You are a stiff-necked people.(E) If I were to go with you even for a moment, I might destroy(F) you. Now take off your ornaments and I will decide what to do with you.’”
