3 Go up to a land (A)flowing with milk and honey; for I will not go up in your midst, because you are [a](B)an obstinate people, and (C)I might destroy you on the way.”
4 When the people heard this [b]sad word, (D)they went into mourning, and none of them put on his ornaments. 5 For the Lord had said to Moses, “Say to the sons of Israel, ‘You are [c](E)an obstinate people; should I go up in your midst for one moment, I would destroy you. Now therefore, put off your ornaments from you, that I may know what I shall do with you.’”

4 When the people heard these distressing words, they began to mourn(D) and no one put on any ornaments. 5 For the Lord had said to Moses, “Tell the Israelites, ‘You are a stiff-necked people.(E) If I were to go with you even for a moment, I might destroy(F) you. Now take off your ornaments and I will decide what to do with you.’”
