22 (B)Then Moses [b]had Israel set out from the [c]Red Sea, and they went out into (C)the wilderness of (D)Shur; and they went three days in the wilderness and found no water. 23 And they came to (E)Marah, but they could not drink the waters [d]of Marah, for they were [e]bitter; therefore it was named [f]Marah.

The Waters of Marah and Elim

22 Then Moses led Israel from the Red Sea and they went into the Desert(D) of Shur.(E) For three days they traveled in the desert without finding water.(F) 23 When they came to Marah, they could not drink its water because it was bitter. (That is why the place is called Marah.[a](G))
