34 I will protect and save this city for my own sake
and for the sake of my servant David.

The Destruction of Sennacherib

35 That night, the angel of the Lord went out and struck down one hundred eighty-five thousand men in the camp of Assyria. When it was time to wake up in the morning, there they were—all the dead bodies! 36 Then Sennacherib king of Assyria broke camp and returned and lived in Nineveh.

New International Version

34 I will defend(A) this city and save it,
    for my sake and for the sake of David(B) my servant.’”

35 That night the angel of the Lord(C) went out and put to death a hundred and eighty-five thousand in the Assyrian camp. When the people got up the next morning—there were all the dead bodies!(D) 36 So Sennacherib king of Assyria broke camp and withdrew.(E) He returned to Nineveh(F) and stayed there.
