2 To (A)Timothy, (B)my true [a]son in the faith: (C)Grace, mercy, and peace from God the Father and (D)Christ Jesus our Lord.
3 Just as I urged you [b]upon my departure for (E)Macedonia, to remain on at (F)Ephesus so that you would instruct certain people not to (G)teach strange doctrines, 4 nor to [c]pay attention to (H)myths and endless (I)genealogies, which give rise to useless (J)speculation rather than (K)advance [d]the plan of God, which is by faith, so I urge you now.

3 As I urged you when I went into Macedonia,(D) stay there in Ephesus(E) so that you may command certain people not to teach false doctrines(F) any longer 4 or to devote themselves to myths(G) and endless genealogies.(H) Such things promote controversial speculations(I) rather than advancing God’s work—which is by faith.
