1 John 3:12-14

12 We are not to be like Cain, who belonged to Satan and killed his brother. Why did he kill him? Because Cain had been doing wrong and he knew very well that his brother’s life was better than his. 13 So don’t be surprised, dear friends, if the world hates you.
14 If we love other Christians, it proves that we have been delivered from hell and given eternal life. But a person who doesn’t have love for others is headed for eternal death.

New International Version
12 Do not be like Cain, who belonged to the evil one(A) and murdered his brother.(B) And why did he murder him? Because his own actions were evil and his brother’s were righteous.(C) 13 Do not be surprised, my brothers and sisters,[a] if the world hates you.(D) 14 We know that we have passed from death to life,(E) because we love each other. Anyone who does not love remains in death.(F)
