¹⁸ knowing that you were not ^[a](A)redeemed with perishable things like silver or gold from your ^(B)futile way of life inherited from your forefathers, ¹⁹ but with precious ^(C)blood, as of a ^(D)lamb unblemished and spotless, the blood of Christ.

²⁰ and through Him to ^(A)reconcile all things to Himself, ^(B)whether things on earth or things in ^[a]heaven, having made ^(C)peace through ^(D)the blood of His cross.

²¹ And although you were ^(E)previously alienated and hostile in attitude, engaged in evil deeds,

²⁸ just as ^(A)the Son of Man ^(B)did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His ^[a]life as a ransom for many.”
