Isaiah 2:12-21

A Day of Reckoning Coming

¹²For the Lord of armies will have a day of reckoning
Against ^(A)everyone who is arrogant and haughty,
And against everyone who is lifted up,
That he may be brought low.
¹³And it will be against all the cedars of Lebanon that are lofty and lifted up,
Against all the ^(B)oaks of Bashan,
¹⁴Against all the ^(C)lofty mountains,
Against all the hills that are lifted up,
¹⁵Against every ^(D)high tower,
Against every fortified wall,
¹⁶Against all the ^(E)ships of Tarshish
And against all the delightful ships.
¹⁷And the pride of humanity will be humbled
And the arrogance of people will be brought low;
And the Lord alone will be exalted on that day,
¹⁸And the ^(F)idols will completely vanish.
¹⁹People will ^(G)go into caves of the rocks
And into holes in the ^[a]ground
Away from the terror of the Lord
And the splendor of His majesty,
When He arises ^(H)to terrify the earth.
²⁰On that day people will ^(I)throw away to the moles and the ^(J)bats
Their idols of silver and their idols of gold,
Which they made for themselves to worship,
²¹In order to ^(K)go into the clefts of the rocks and the crannies of the cliffs
Before the terror of the Lord and the splendor of His majesty,
When He arises to terrify the earth.

¹²And I looked when He broke the sixth seal, and there was a great ^(A)earthquake; and the ^(B)sun became as black as ^(C)sackcloth made of hair, and the whole moon became like blood; ¹³and ^(D)the stars of the sky fell to the earth, ^(E)as a fig tree drops its unripe figs when shaken by a great wind. ¹⁴^(F)The sky was split apart like a scroll when it is rolled up, and ^(G)every mountain and island was removed from its place. ¹⁵Then ^(H)the kings of the earth and the eminent people, and the commanders and the wealthy and the strong, and every slave and free person hid themselves in the caves and among the rocks of the mountains; ¹⁶and they *^(I)said to the mountains and the rocks, “Fall on us and hide us from the ^[a]sight of Him ^(J)who sits on the throne, and from the ^(K)wrath of the Lamb; ¹⁷for ^(L)the great day of Their wrath has come, and ^(M)who is able to stand?”
