⁹ Before your pots can feel the heat of the thorns^(A)—
    whether they be green or dry—the wicked will be swept away.^[a](B)

²⁷ when calamity overtakes you like a storm,
    when disaster^(A) sweeps over you like a whirlwind,
    when distress and trouble overwhelm you.

¹³ Although the peoples roar^(A) like the roar of surging waters,
    when he rebukes^(B) them they flee^(C) far away,
driven before the wind like chaff^(D) on the hills,
    like tumbleweed before a gale.^(E)

²⁴ No sooner are they planted,
    no sooner are they sown,
    no sooner do they take root^(A) in the ground,
than he blows^(B) on them and they wither,^(C)
    and a whirlwind sweeps them away like chaff.^(D)

¹⁶ You will winnow^(A) them, the wind will pick them up,
    and a gale^(B) will blow them away.^(C)
But you will rejoice^(D) in the Lord
    and glory^(E) in the Holy One^(F) of Israel.

²³ See, the storm^(A) of the Lord
    will burst out in wrath,
a driving wind swirling down
    on the heads of the wicked.
