⁸ Moses answered them, “Wait until I find out what the Lord commands concerning you.”^(A)

⁹ Then the Lord said to Moses, ¹⁰ “Tell the Israelites: ‘When any of you or your descendants are unclean because of a dead body^(B) or are away on a journey, they are still to celebrate^(C) the Lord’s Passover, ¹¹ but they are to do it on the fourteenth day of the second month^(D) at twilight. They are to eat the lamb, together with unleavened bread and bitter herbs.^(E)

³⁴ and they kept him in custody, because it was not clear what should be done to him.^(A)

³⁵ Then the Lord said to Moses, “The man must die.^(A) The whole assembly must stone him outside the camp.^(B)”

⁵ So Moses brought their case^(A) before the Lord,^{(B) 6} and the Lord said to him, ⁷ “What Zelophehad’s daughters are saying is right. You must certainly give them property as an inheritance^(C) among their father’s relatives and give their father’s inheritance to them.^(D)

⁸ “Say to the Israelites, ‘If a man dies and leaves no son, give his inheritance to his daughter. ⁹ If he has no daughter, give his inheritance to his brothers. ¹⁰ If he has no brothers, give his inheritance to his father’s brothers. ¹¹ If his father had no brothers, give his inheritance to the nearest relative in his clan, that he may possess it. This is to have the force of law^(E) for the Israelites, as the Lord commanded Moses.’”
