¹⁶ And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another advocate^(A) to help you and be with you forever—

¹⁷ the Spirit of truth.^(A) The world cannot accept him,^(B) because it neither sees him nor knows him. But you know him, for he lives with you and will be^[a] in you.

²⁶ “When the Advocate^(A) comes, whom I will send to you from the Father^(B)—the Spirit of truth^(C) who goes out from the Father—he will testify about me.^(D)

⁷ But very truly I tell you, it is for your good that I am going away. Unless I go away, the Advocate^(A) will not come to you; but if I go, I will send him to you.^(B)

³¹ Then the church throughout Judea, Galilee and Samaria^(A) enjoyed a time of peace and was strengthened. Living in the fear of the Lord and encouraged by the Holy Spirit, it increased in numbers.^(B)
