¹⁴ How much more, then, will the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit^(A) offered himself^(B) unblemished to God, cleanse our consciences^(C) from acts that lead to death,^[a](D) so that we may serve the living God!^(E)

² Otherwise, would they not have stopped being offered? For the worshipers would have been cleansed once for all, and would no longer have felt guilty for their sins.^{(A) 3} But those sacrifices are an annual reminder of sins.^{(B) 4} It is impossible for the blood of bulls and goats^(C) to take away sins.^(D)

⁵ Therefore, when Christ came into the world,^(E) he said:

⁸ First he said, “Sacrifices and offerings, burnt offerings and sin offerings you did not desire, nor were you pleased with them”^(I)—though they were offered in accordance with the law. ⁹ Then he said, “Here I am, I have come to do your will.”^(J) He sets aside the first to establish the second. ¹⁰ And by that will, we have been made holy^(K) through the sacrifice of the body^(L) of Jesus Christ once for all.^(M)

²² let us draw near to God^(A) with a sincere heart and with the full assurance that faith brings,^(B) having our hearts sprinkled to cleanse us from a guilty conscience^(C) and having our bodies washed with pure water.^(D)
