⁸ “We both had dreams,” they answered, “but there is no one to interpret them.”^(A)

Then Joseph said to them, “Do not interpretations belong to God?^(B) Tell me your dreams.”

¹⁶ “I cannot do it,” Joseph replied to Pharaoh, “but God will give Pharaoh the answer he desires.”^(A)

²⁷ Daniel replied, “No wise man, enchanter, magician or diviner can explain to the king the mystery he has asked about,^{(A) 28} but there is a God in heaven who reveals mysteries.^(B) He has shown King Nebuchadnezzar what will happen in days to come.^(C) Your dream and the visions that passed through your mind^(D) as you were lying in bed^(E) are these:^(F)

²⁹ “As Your Majesty was lying there, your mind turned to things to come, and the revealer of mysteries showed you what is going to happen.^{(G) 30} As for me, this mystery has been revealed^(H) to me, not because I have greater wisdom than anyone else alive, but so that Your Majesty may know the interpretation and that you may understand what went through your mind.

¹⁶ I approached one of those standing there and asked him the meaning of all this.

“So he told me and gave me the interpretation^(A) of these things:
