³ I want you to swear^(A) by the Lord, the God of heaven^(B) and the God of earth,^(C) that you will not get a wife for my son^(D) from the daughters of the Canaanites,^(E) among whom I am living,^(F)

⁴ but will go to my country and my own relatives^(A) and get a wife for my son Isaac.^(B)”

⁶ Then Shechem’s father Hamor went out to talk with Jacob.^(A)

⁸ But Hamor said to them, “My son Shechem has his heart set on your daughter. Please give her to him as his wife.^(A)

³⁹ When David heard that Nabal was dead, he said, “Praise be to the Lord, who has upheld my cause against Nabal for treating me with contempt. He has kept his servant from doing wrong and has brought Nabal’s wrongdoing down on his own head.”

Then David sent word to Abigail, asking her to become his wife.
