¹⁰ Now the Valley of Siddim^(A) was full of tar^(B) pits, and when the kings of Sodom and Gomorrah^(C) fled, some of the men fell into them and the rest fled to the hills.^(D)

² Because the power of Midian was so oppressive,^(A) the Israelites prepared shelters for themselves in mountain clefts, caves^(B) and strongholds.^(C)

¹⁶ then let those who are in Judea flee to the mountains.
