²⁶ He behaved in the vilest manner by going after idols, like the Amorites^(A) the Lord drove out before Israel.)

²¹ He followed completely the ways of his father, worshiping the idols his father had worshiped, and bowing down to them.

² He followed the ways of the kings of Israel and also made idols^(A) for worshiping the Baals. ³ He burned sacrifices in the Valley of Ben Hinnom^(B) and sacrificed his children^(C) in the fire, engaging in the detestable^(D) practices of the nations the Lord had driven out before the Israelites. ⁴ He offered sacrifices and burned incense at the high places, on the hilltops and under every spreading tree.

³ He rebuilt the high places his father Hezekiah had demolished; he also erected altars to the Baals and made Asherah poles.^(A) He bowed down^(B) to all the starry hosts and worshiped them.

⁷ He took the image he had made and put it in God’s temple,^(A) of which God had said to David and to his son Solomon, “In this temple and in Jerusalem, which I have chosen out of all the tribes of Israel, I will put my Name forever.
