¹⁸ King Rehoboam sent out Adoniram,^[a](A) who was in charge of forced labor, but all Israel stoned him to death.^(B) King Rehoboam, however, managed to get into his chariot and escape to Jerusalem.

⁴⁴ The seventh time^(A) the servant reported, “A cloud^(B) as small as a man’s hand is rising from the sea.”

So Elijah said, “Go and tell Ahab, ‘Hitch up your chariot and go down before the rain stops you.’”
